Obituary of Walter M. Fisher, Jr.

Fisher, Walter M., Jr. WESTERLO - Walter M. Fisher, Jr., devoted and best friend of his wife of 53 years, Patricia "Trish" Parker Fisher; much loved father of Michael E. Snyder (Vaunda) of Virginia Beach, VA and deceased son, Robert D. Fisher (Caitlin) of Barcelona, Spain; worshipped grandfather of Krystal Lynn Snyder of Virginia Beach, VA; step-grandfather of twins Denae and Oenone Acheson of Barcelona, Spain; great-grandfather of Carson McConnell of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by his loving brother, Douglas (Dorothy) Fisher of East Berne, and was also predeceased by his parents, Walter M. and Ruth McMillen Fisher, and sister, Charlotte Fisher, in addition to his son Bob, who died in 2005. Walt was born almost 80 years ago on May 10, 1931. He said many times that he "was born in this house, and he would die in this house", and that is exactly what happened on Sunday, January 16, 2011. He was diagnosed with acute leukemia in December, and lost his fight quickly. Walt worked for Hannay Reels, Inc. in Westerlo for a little over 33 years, and retired from there in 1996. During his lifetime, he did work at other various places, including the old Duffy Mott Mill. He was an avid hunter in his younger days, especially coon hunting or rabbit hunting with a really good dog along - he also enjoyed trap-shooting, snowmobiling; he loved plowing snow and even loved cutting the grass (most of the time). He was a great dad - and loved all of the kids in the family. Our boys have wonderful memories to fall back on. He will live in our hearts forever. There are so many thank-you's to say, it is hard to know where to begin. To all of our family members and friends-special thanks for always being there when we needed you. We are so blessed with all of you. To the Hospice staff - I have never met a more dedicated, loving group of people in my life. To our doctor, Dr. Peter Forman of Delmar, who did over and above what was needed from him - he even came to visit Walt here at home, which was wonderful, and Walt was so pleased. To Sr. Mary Frederick from St. Thomas Church in Delmar - she was a Godsend to both Walt and I with her visits and prayers. To my loving "sister" Dorothy Fisher, who helped with Walt countless numbers of times with trips to the hospital, and blood transfusions, and anything that was needed. To my loving niece, Dede Hagedone, who spent so much time with "Unkie", both at the hospital and home. She was so much help to me. To my dear son, Michael and his wife, Vaunda for their trips here from Virginia (with Krystal too) and their help and love. Lastly and most importantly, to Norm and Reda Brush, our good friends and neighbors. Norm has been here daily for us for the last year - to do things, to get things, to help with anything he could. We thank God for all of you. Walt was cremated, as were his wishes. He wanted no ceremonies or viewing. There will be a memorial service in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, or Helderberg Senior Services, Inc., c/o Hiawatha Grange Hall, Route 32, Dormansville, NY 12055. Light a candle at ajcunninghamfh.com. Once again, our loving thanks to all. Walt was a good man...he will be so missed, but we will see him again. Pat "Trish" Fisher Mike and Vaunda Snyder Everyone who knew and loved him.
