Obituary of Herbert R. Moore

COXSACKIE - Herbert R. Moore entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 2, 2023.  Herb was born to the late Margarite & James Moore Sr. on December 9, 1934.  Herb married his high school sweetheart, Julia Schoonmaker and together they had one daughter, Jennifer Moore-Warren.

Herb spent his life as a servant to the Lord, his country, and his community. After graduating high school he joined the U.S. Navy and attained the rank of ADJ, 3rd class.   Some of his favorite stories include his time aboard the USS Hornet and his time spent in the boxing ring. After he served his country, Herb furthered the Lord’s work by joining the D.M. Hamilton Steamer Co. #2 where he held various titles. At the time of his passing, Herb remained a Life Member. He was proud of the 63+ years as a volunteer firefighter. 

In addition to his wife and daughter, Herb leaves behind his son in law, Jason Warren whom he always loved as a son. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Ronald Dumary III (Lealynn), Cheyenne Warren, & Jacob Warren (Malaysia). His grandchildren brought him so much joy and he cherished every moment spent with them. Herb was one of 15 children, predeceased by his brothers Manley, Tommy, Robert, Charles, James, Raymond, & Michael and his sisters Edith, Sharon, Doris, & Clara. He is survived by his brother Paul & sisters, Julia & Joan.  

Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 6^th from 4 to 6 pm, with Firematic services at 6pm, at A.J.Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 7^th at 12:30 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 70 Mansion Street, Coxsackie. Burial, with honors, will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie.
