Obituary of Stanley Atkinson

PRESTON HOLLOW – Stanley Atkinson, 90, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born on November 14, 1926 in Brooklyn to the late Roscoe and Margaret Holzman Atkinson. After he graduated high school, Stanley joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed on a Destroyer Escort in the Pacific during WWII. After being Honorably Discharged, he worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard until it closed. He then worked as a NYC Police Officer for 19 years. After retiring from the police department, he and his family moved to Preston Hollow. He then worked as a Mint Police Officer at the Treasury Department at West Point. He was an avid gun enthusiast, having kept his shooting up to par. Stanley is survived by his beloved wife Suzanne M. Motley; his children, Laura (Robbie) Fowle, Wendy (Ed) Shelton, Wesley (Christine) Atkinson, and step-son Ken (Mariann) Heath; his grandchildren, Adam and Derek Shelton, Amanda and Jessica Atkinson, and step-grandchildren Joanna and Daniel Heath; and his step-great-granddaughter, Kyla Grace. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday February 22nd from 11am to 1pm at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville with a funeral service to follow at 1pm.
