Obituary of Alfred D. Boomhower

CATSKILL – Alfred D. "Don" Boomhower, 88, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Greene Meadows Nursing & Rehab Center after a brief illness. Born in Athens on August 19, 1927, he was son of the late Raymond E. and Edna Clark Boomhower. Don was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was employed for more than 30 years as an administrative analyzer at IBM in Poughkeepsie, retiring in 1987. He also owned and operated Don's Bike Shop in Kingston for 25 years. Don was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, was active in church work, and enjoyed woodworking. Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Phyllis L. Guldenstern Boomhower; sister, Mary Boomhower; grandchildren, Christa Boomhower, Matthew Lennon and Sara Lennon; brother-in-law, David Guldenstern and his wife, Jodi; niece, Erin Guldenstern. In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his son, Mark Boomhower; foster son, Donald Lennon; twin brother, Arthur Boomhower; brother, Edmund Boomhower. Don has been cremated, and his ashes will be buried privately in Westerlo Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service on Friday, March 25 at 2 p.m. at Crosspointe Wesleyan Church, 9 Bogardus Avenue, Catskill, NY 12414.
