Obituary of Dennis J. Jones

RAVENA – Dennis J. Jones, 66, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, after fighting a long, hard battle with cancer.

Dennis was born in Albany on December 3, 1957, a son of the late Raymond and Mary Ann O’Neill Jones.  He was raised in Coeymans Hollow and attended Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Schools.  Dennis was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from 1977 until 1981.  Following discharge, he worked for CJ Mechanical and Mystery Lake Mechanical, before starting his own business, Complete Mechanical Services in Ravena.

Dennis was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 291 for several years, and was a Past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion, holding dual membership, and worked on many projects.  He was an avid bowler.  He enjoyed camping, playing horseshoes, singing, and dancing, and cooking.  He especially loved making his Manhattan Clam Chowder and Chili.

His generosity and love were shown every day. Anywhere between helping his friends/family shingle a roof, to maintaining his pool for his grandkids to gather in. He was always there for anyone who needed a hand. He found joy in staying active with yard work especially mowing, was consistently a great host for his many friends and family, and camping at Earlton Campground where he was surrounded by his loved ones.

Dennis is survived by his loving significant other, Kathryn K. Durkin; his daughters, Nicole Childs (Dale) and Samantha Jones (Thomas McGahan); his grandchildren, Cameryn, Raelyn and Colton; his siblings, Donna Slingerland (Bill), Gary Jones (Peggy), Linda Klob (Monte), Suzanne Flannery (Dan), Shari Underwood (Ben), and Michael Jones (Sheila); many nieces and nephews.

Dennis has been cremated privately, following his wishes.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, April 27th at 12 noon in St. Patrick’s Church, 21 Main Street, Ravena.  Military Honors will follow at 3 p.m. at Greenville American Legion Post 291, 54 Maple Avenue in Greenville, followed by a Celebration of Life.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Greenville American Legion Post 291, P.O. Box 132, Greenville, NY 12083, or to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 will be appreciated.  Condolence page is available at ajcunninghamfh.com.
