Janet E. Olmsted Obituary

Janet E. Olmsted from Greenville, NY born Sept. 23, 1939 In Catskill, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026 at her home to be with the Lord and to join her late husband Donald Olmsted Jr. in heaven.

Janet was the daughter of the late George Wallace and Rosemond Marshall. Growing up in New Baltimore, NY she attended Ravena Coeymans-Selkirk High School, then lived most of her life in Greenville, NY.

Janet worked at Stiefel Labs for 17 years and at the Greenville Family Dental office for 6 years. She also worked as a waitress and chambermaid in her early days. Janet loved to be around her family and grandchildren. They meant an awful lot to her. She treasured her dear friend Barbara Morse whom they have been friends since her school days. She was very close to her sister Kathy Thompson and her late sister Joan Buell from Troy, NY.

Janet was a member of the Westerlo Baptist Church and attended bible study once a week. Janet was a devout Christian woman who would be considered a disciple of the Lord where she was doing God’s work by spreading the word of the Lord to all whom she encountered.

Janet was beyond talented in arts and crafts from needlepoint, quilting, crocheting and more recently custom card making. Janet and her husband traveled across the country with their RV to Arizona in the winter months for many years after they retired where she learned a lot of her craft making skills.

Janet was predeceased by her husband Donald Olmsted Jr., her sister Joan and her son George. She is survived by her sister Cathy Thompson; her three sons Dale Olmsted (Susan), Kevin Olmsted (Samantha) and Keith Olmsted (Theresa); grandchildren, Dale, Michael, Michelle, Christopher, Kelly Rosales (Justin), Chad, Taylor, Heath Quiles (Joshua), Dennis Bambino, Brenda Knierim (Adam), Colleen Hanley, Jonathan Stevens; and several great grandchildren.

A special thanks to all the Hospice staff and her church family of the First Baptist Church of Westerlo who never left Janet’s side in her time of need as well as her close friends Vi and Dennis Statham who were the absolute best neighbors anyone can have.

Private graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 30 at the Greenville Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for a memorial service and reception to follow at 12 noon at the First Baptist Church located at 618 NY-143 Westerlo, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church, 618 State Route 143, Westerlo, NY 12193.
