William "Mr. B" Bennett Obituary

William Bennett, of Coxsackie, fondly known as “Mr. B” or Bill, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the age of 86.

Born on September 15, 1939, in Catskill, he was a son of the late Lester Bennett and Violet (née Norris) Bennett. Bill was born and raised in Coxsackie, where he built a life rooted in family, work, and dedicated community service.

Bill married Linda (Carkner), and together they shared 36 years of marriage until her passing in 2006. They raised two children. Bill worked as a parts manager and was the owner of Napa Auto Parts, where he was well known and respected in the community.

At just 16 years old, Bill began his lifelong commitment to service by joining the Coxsackie Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter. He first served with the George H. Scott Hook and Ladder Company and later with D.M. Hamilton Steamer Company No. 2. Over an extraordinary 71 years, Bill faithfully dedicated himself to protecting and serving his community — a legacy of commitment few can match.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife Linda, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Peter Bennett.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Robyn Bennett; his son, Scott Bennett (Sara); his cherished grandchildren, Cody, Paige and Riley Swarthout, Izzabela, Raigan and Benjamin Bennett; and a great-grandchild expected any day. He is also survived by his brother, Karl (Linda) Bennett, and his sister, Constance Miller.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 6, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Christ Episcopal Church, 70 Mansion Street, Coxsackie. A Full Uniform FIREMATIC Service will be at 7:30pm.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, March 7, at 11:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery on Riverside Avenue. Services will be officiated by Father Frank Lockwood.

Care has been entrusted to A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at www.ajcunninghamfh.com.

Bill’s unwavering dedication, steady presence, and deep love for his family and community will be remembered always.
