WESTERLO – Nicholas Valentine, born March 23, 1938 in Smithtown, Long Island, New York, to James and Elsie (Sanders) Valentine, passed January 26, 2026 peacefully at home with his family at 1036 CR 402, Westerlo NY 12193.
He graduated in 1955 from Smithtown High School. Nick was a vegetable farmer, Sweetwater Farms on Long Island for 30 years, and moved to Westerlo, NY in April 1984, where he continued to farm, and served as a horticulture sales rep for Griffin.
He was a member of Hauppauge, LI NY fire department and benevolent association; Long Island and Albany County Farm Bureau member and served on board of directors; Long Island and Albany County Cooperative Extension member and served on board of directors. Nick also served as a 4-H leader in Hauppauge.
Nick was married on May 30, 1964 to Barbara May Halinar. They had four children: Nicholas (Susan), Ralph (Colleen), Lillian, and Elsie. There are four grandchildren: Emily (Julia), Nicholas (Alyssa), Matthew, and Abigail; and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Nicholas. Nick was an amazing husband, father, father-in-law, PopPop, G-Pop, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. We were blessed with an awesome family that keeps growing, and many wonderful friends.
We are honoring Nick’s request for cremation and no funeral service. At a later time we will celebrate his life. Condolences may be posted at ajcunninghamfh.com.
