RENSSELAERVILLE – Zachary Gerdsmeier, age 40, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025 surrounded by loved ones and friends, from complications arising from a recent heart attack.

            A stonemason and tree removal expert by trade, he had worked for the Albany County Department of Public Works as an operator and plow truck driver for several years.  Zack was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for fishing and bush crafting.

            Zack is survived by two sons, Nicoli Hunter and Zander Karl Gerdsmeier and their mother, Ally Oyston (nee Benninger); his mother, Pauline Gerdsmeier and his sister, Jessica Hartenbaum; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  Zack was predeceased by his father, Russell Carl Gerdsmeier, and his younger brother, Jason T. Gerdsmeier.

            Calling hours and a celebration of life for Zack will be on Saturday, October 25th from 2 to 4 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville.  The family asks that memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, please be made to Animal Kind, P.O.
