Our dear Mother, Michelina Pirretti, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2025 in Catskill, NY. Born June 7, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY to Italian immigrants Anna Vitolo and Modestino Cipoletti, she recently celebrated her 101st birthday with her family. Michelina was one of fifteen children, eleven girls and four boys. After graduating high school, she worked as a seamstress during WWII sewing epaulets on Army uniforms. She married Anthony Pirretti in 1947 and later moved to Valley Stream, NY where she raised her four children, Anthony Jr, John, Annette, and Timothy.
Like her mother, Michelina loved children and was a Sunday School teacher for many years at the Church of the Nazarene in Valley Stream. She was a woman of great faith, put all her trust in God and attended church every Sunday. She was a good and kind-hearted person, loved by all her family and many friends. Over the years, she was very active in church activities and was a member of Blessed Sacrament’s over 50 Club, the Italian American Club, Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the local Republican Club. In her later years, she lived in a Seniors Apartment complex in Valley Stream and was very active and well loved by the other residents where she enjoyed attending concerts and spending time with her favorite dancing partner Mario. Her motto was “Just keep busy and enjoy your life to the fullest”.
Michelina is survived by her four children: Anthony Jr, John (Lorraine), Annette (Daniel), and Tim (Donna); seven grandchildren: John Michael (Teresa), John Thomas (Michelle), Leanne (Rico), Katie, Annie, Michael and Thomas and three great grandchildren: Dominic, Julianne and Giovanna. She has one surviving sister (Mary) and numerous nieces and nephews. She loved all of them and they loved her.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the wonderful care Michelina received at The Pines at Catskill. We are especially thankful for the Nurses and CNAs on 2 west for their kind and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in Michelina's memory be made to Grace Place, Resurrection Lutheran Church, 186 Main St., Cairo, NY 12413 or The Pines at Catskill, Recreation Dept., 154 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, NY 12414.
