With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lisa (Brown) VanValkenburg, a kind and gentle soul who brought warmth and love to all who knew her. Lisa passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 8, 2025, leaving a legacy of friendship, dedication, and a deep affection for animals. Born on September 10, 1965, in Catskill, NY, to Gloria and Richard Brown, Lisa was raised in the close-knit community of Greenville, NY. After graduating from Greenville Central High School and attending Columbia-Greene Community College, she began her career with the New York State Department of Civil Service.
Lisa shared 40 beautiful years of her life with her beloved husband, Tim VanValkenburg, who predeceased her on April 28, 2025. Together, they embarked on a new adventure, relocating to Snellville, Georgia, where Lisa embraced the warm weather and sunshine, leaving behind the snowy winters of New York. While in Georgia, Lisa found fulfillment in various jobs, most recently as a Sales Associate at The Salvation Army, where her compassionate nature shone brightly. She volunteered her time at numerous local events. Lisa cherished her time with her feline companion, Mikey, and found immense joy in caring for her beloved pets throughout her life. She maintained cherished friendships from her high school days, proving the lasting impact she had on those around her.
She is survived by her loving parents, Gloria and Richard Brown; her brother, Michael, and his wife, Mary Ellen (McGowan) Brown; and her adored nieces, Emily and Lily. She also leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.
Lisa’s wish was to be cremated and for her ashes to be spread in a beautiful location, a fitting tribute to her love of nature and the peaceful spirit she possessed. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, a reminder of the importance of kindness, friendship, and finding joy in the simple things in life. She will be deeply missed.
