
Obituary of Sarah A. Grogan
FREEHOLD - Sarah Alice Grogan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Pines at Catskill Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. She was born on March 12th, 1937 in County Tyrone, Ireland to the late Daniel & Ellen Thompson. After moving to Ossining, New York in 1959 Sarah began training to become an airline flight attendant. She met and then married Michael Grogan in 1969 and they moved to Mahopac to raise their four children. She was a stay-at-home mother until the 1980’s where she worked at Sears Department Store and then Blue Cross Blue Shield. Upon Michael’s retirement she and Michael moved to Freehold, where Sarah took on a part-time work at Bryant’s Grocery Store in Greenville. She was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 2, and the Irish Cultural Center. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, many pets, cooking/baking and mostly spending time with her family, especially her dear grandchildren. She had dementia and arthritic issues and was blessed to have been cared for and loved by her late husband and then her children for the remainder of her life. In addition to her parents, Sarah was predeceased by her husband, Michael on January 22, 2020; and siblings, James, Paddy, Edward, George, Mary, Daniel, and David.
Sarah is survived by her children, Sarah Pallas, Thomas, David (Katie), and Daniel Grogan; her grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, Noah, Evelyn, Liam, and Claire; her sisters, Tillie, Anne, Bridget, Olivia; brother, Gerard and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 5th, from 4 to 8 pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, March 6th at 10 am at Holy Trinity/St. Mary’s Church, 429 E. Allen St., Hudson, NY 12534, followed by burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org/alzheimers-dementia. Condolences can be posted at ajcunninghamfh.com.
