Born to Hugh and Ruth Slevin in Brooklyn, NY. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY. and graduated from St. Edmonds all girl catholic High School. Her family moved among a number of neighborhoods, but her favorite was living in Coney Island. The boardwalk, Steeplechase amusement park, the ocean and the Cyclone Roller Coaster made for magical memories. Eventually, she traded the big city for country life upstate New York.
On August 31, 1970 she married Frank Richards and spent 55 years as his devoted wife. They raised two amazing daughters, Jeannine and Jennifer. She returned to school and entered nursing school. She graduated as her class valedictorian in May 1983. She began work in the early nineties at Greene County Hospice and went on to work for Hospice of Rockingham County in North Carolina. She devoted over 30 years to hospice. Rosemarie had many interests, including reading, eating out with friends, cooking homestyle meals, canning, watching NFL football, crocheting, and playing Bingo, and shopping. Her biggest joy was her garden. She planned the colors and types of plants and flowers to make her yard a showplace lasting from early spring to early frost. She loved watching hummingbirds visit her flowers.
Another joy came from traveling with family and friends. Some of her favorite places were Ireland, England, Alaska, and Banff, Canada. Disney’s Magic Kingdom, with her daughters and her grandchildren were trips that filled her with joy and wonder.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her husband, Frank Richards, her daughters Jeannine (Rother), Jennifer (Zenker), 3 grandchildren Bailey, Quinton, and Olivia. Sister Pauline (Mike) Zvonkovic. Sister-in-law Linda Richards and many nieces and nephews.
Rosemarie will be remembered for her kindness, sarcasm, and helpful nature. Her last months were filled with visits from friends, calls from others across the country, flowers and cards and love from all who had the good fortune to have known her. Having served as a Hospice nurse, the outpouring of support from the local Hospice caregiver community, lifted Rosie’s spirits. The family wishes to thank you all for letting her know how much she meant to those following in her footsteps. Care has been entrusted to A.J.
