Obituary of Elizabeth J. McAneny
GREENVILLE - Elizabeth Jane Elliott McAneny, born on April 23, 1927, passed to her eternal glory on Monday, January 20, 2025 in her home, surrounded by her family. We treasure her memory as our hub and our center. All branches radiated from her strong and enduring guidance. She loved and cared for each of us, creating a strong family bond.
Betty’s primary focus during her life was her family and her home. She was also active throughout her life in her community. She was employed during her earliest years as a bookkeeper by Greenville Norton Hill Lumber Company. In following years, Betty worked at Breezy Knoll resort, Von’s Department Store, and as the Hallmark coordinator at the Greenville Pharmacy. Betty was also active in the 4H club.
She was a devoted lifetime member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. During her many years there she served on a variety of committees including time as a trustee during the building of the Carney Center. Betty also enjoyed years of service and fellowship with the United Methodist Women.
Betty had so many things that she enjoyed! She was a talented seamstress with quilting, knitting and cross stitch. She was a world traveler. Betty visited national treasures all across the United States. Other travels included Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Alaska. She was a devout member of “The Domino Girls” who met regularly to enjoy a good game, great fellowship, and tasty refreshments.
Betty is predeceased by her husband Fred, her daughter Eleanor, her parents Ruth and Theodore Merritt Elliott, and her six brothers and sisters.
Her surviving children are Debbie (Kevin) Reeth, James Marcello, Richard (Patricia) Miller, John (Kathy) McAneny, Beth Snyder, Michael (Patty) McAneny, Danny McAneny (Deanna Picarelli), and Diane McAneny. Betty is also survived by her much loved 21 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to her loving caregivers, Amy Zibura, Cathi Hughes, Carol Madera, Sandra Shakir and Merrie Schepp.
