Obituary of George W. Rauf, Sr.

MEDUSA - George W. Rauf, Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on Monday August 17, 2020 at The Grand at Guilderland. He was born on November 30, 1931 in Ozone Park, Brooklyn to the late George A. and Berta Burger Dumrauf. When he was seven years old, the family moved to a small farm in Westerlo, where he grew up with nature and learned to dairy farm with his father. He graduated from Greenville Central School in 1950 and moved to a larger dairy farm in South Westerlo. He met his wife, Mary Lee Bulich, and they were wed on the farm where they then raised their family. His life goal and his main interest was always dairy farming. In addition to running the farm, he worked odd jobs for extra income, including his favorite job as a school bus driver for GCS, where he worked from 1957 to 2010. He also worked as a technician for artificial insemination for cattle, for the post office delivering mail, and for the Greenville Press delivering newspapers. George enjoyed bowling and square dancing at the Circle 8 Club with his wife. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth “Becky” Powell. George is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Lee Rauf; his children, George W. Rauf, Jr. (Pamela), Jeffrey C. Rauf (Jacqueline), and Joel Rauf (Rachel); his son-in-law, Donald Powell; his 11 grandchildren; his 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. George has been privately cremated. A Memorial Mass will take place on Sunday September 27th at 9am at St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville.
