Obituary of Marylyn V. Mahoney
Marylyn V. Mahoney, 81 years, of Greenville passed away peacefully on June 15, 2011 under hospice care in the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. She was born in New York City on July 20, 1929, daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (O'Keefe) Gray. She married Daniel J. Mahoney on May 24, 1952. They were foster parents for 10 years with the Catholic Home Bureau in New York City. They moved to Greenville in 1969, and in 1971 continued their foster parenting through Greene County providing loving care to children for more than 30 years. In June 1990 they were given top honors by Greene County Social Services. Marylyn was Den Mother to Den 6 for 10 years, and helped start the Tiger Cub Scouts in Greenville. She has been a member of St John the Baptist Church since 1969 and a proud member of the Rosary Altar Society. She loved bus trips with friends and dining out, especially at Hollowbrook and Marco's; and sports, particularly the NY Mets and Buffalo Bills. Besides her parents, Marylyn was predeceased by her beloved husband Daniel J. Mahoney in 2005, a brother, Raymond Gray, a sister, Margaret Young, brothers-in-law, Ray Young and John, Michael and Tice Mahoney and sister-in-law Connie Mahoney.
Surviving is her daughter, Mary Mahoney (Jim Layman), her son, Thomas Mahoney (Patricia), granddaughter, Elizabeth Marcello (Rob), grandsons. Daniel Mahoney (Maria) and Patrick Mahoney, great-granddaughter, Darby Marcello, brothers, Robert Gray and John Gray (Judy), sisters-in-law, Pat Gray, Brenda, Mary and Lore Mahoney, brother-in-law, Rich Mahoney (Susan), loving nieces and nephews, and close friends Kay and Pat Culhane, Noreen O'Connor and Tony and Mary Scanlon.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 21, 10:45 AM from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St John the Baptist Church. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.
