GREENVILLE – Doris L. Harding Farrugia, 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, March 1, 2018 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany. Born in Far Rockaway on August 18, 1919, she was a daughter of the late William and Freda Stenger Harding. Doris was raised and educated in New York City. After graduating from George Washington High School and attending business college, she was employed as a file clerk at Metropolitan Insurance, and as a secretary for the New York City Housing Authority, both in Manhattan. Following her marriage in Florida to Joseph J. Farrugia, the couple moved to Seattle, WA where Joseph served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After retirement, the couple split their time between New York and Jacksonville Beach, Florida. After the death of her husband, Doris and her sister divided their time between Florida and New York. Doris came to Greenville full time in 2012 and resided with her sister. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Greenville. Doris and Joe loved music and dancing and were animal lovers, taking in and feeding all stray cats that came to their door.
Mrs. Farrugia is survived by her devoted sister and caregiver, Muriel Harding Falkey of Greenville, and many friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Farrugia was predeceased by her husband and several cousins.
The funeral will be conducted by Rev. Mark Diebel on Saturday, March 10th, at 11 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church in Greenville. Spring burial will be in Greenville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who may wish to remember Doris in a special way may contribute in her memory to Christ Episcopal Church, Greenville or to their favorite charity.
