Obituary of Dennis Fitzgerald

Dennis Fitzgerald, (86) of Westerlo, NY passed away on Jan. 8, 2011, at his home, after a long illness. He was born in County Cork, Ireland on May 9, 1924, son of the late John and Margaret (Neenan) Fitzgerald. Dennis came to the United States form Ireland in 1958. In 1959 he married Mary O'Connell and in 1964 they moved from New York City to their Shamrock Farm in Westerlo, NY. Dennis was an exceptional athlete in Ireland; excelling in track & field and won many events. He loved Irish football, his farm and his family. Dennis was a member of the Greenville Irish American Club. Besides his parents, Dennis was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters. Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Mary O'Connell Fitzgerald, his son, Timothy Fitzgerald (Stacey), his daughter, Margaret Fitzgerald, his grandchildren, TJ and Sharon Fitzgerald, two sisters in Ireland, Ann Donohue and Elizabeth Fitzgerald and a Special Friend, Barney Reilly. Funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at 10:30 AM from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, NY 12083 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at St John the Baptist Church. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.
