Obituary of Bridget C. O'Malley

OAK HILL– Bridget C. "Bridie" O'Malley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 28, 2018 at The Pines in Catskill. She was born on December 19, 1937 in County Claire Ireland to the late Joseph and Mary Ryan Sammon. She was raised in Ireland, and then in 1957 she came to New York City, where she worked as a secretary and book keeper for different firms in Manhattan. After vacationing to Durham for many years, Bridie and her late husband, Flan, moved to Oak Hill to live full time in 1995. Bridie was a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians Ladies Division 32, the Irish American Club, and the Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural and Sports Centre. She was also a parishioner of Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham. She enjoyed visiting Ireland every year, had a passion for Irish dancing, and enjoyed Irish music. In addition to her parents, Bridie was predeceased by her husband, Thomas "Flan" O'Malley on November 10, 2016; and predeceased by her brothers, Michael and Dennis Sammon. Bridie is survived by her siblings, Mary Gilligan, Elizabeth "Betty" Queally, Josephine "Josie" Mahon, Margaret "Maggie" Malone, and Joseph Sammon; and 15 nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Sunday March 4th from 1 to 4pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday March 5th at 11am at Our Lady of Knock Shrine, 2052 State Route 145, East Durham. She will then be flown home to Ireland to be buried with her husband in Tulla Cemetery, County Claire.
