Obituary of Eugene Moynihan

GREENVILLE - Eugene Moynihan, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn. Born on December 5, 1917 in County Kerry, Ireland, he was son of the late Timothy and Nora O'Leary Moynihan. Mr. Moynihan was employed in car maintenance at the NYC Transit-Subway Dept., retiring in 1983. He and his wife lived in Greenville since retirement. Mr. Moynihan was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville, a member of Transit Workers Union Local 100, Greenville Irish American Club, and Our Lady of Knock Council Knights of Columbus in East Durham. Survivors include his wife, Mary Murphy Moynihan; one daughter, Nora Moynihan; two brothers, Patrick and Dennis Moynihan; two sisters, Hanna McCurtin and Nora Moynihan; nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Ann M. Moynihan; brother, Timothy Moynihan; and sisters, Sheila Coupland and Mary Egan. The funeral will be Monday, Oct. 25 at 10:30 a.m. from the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, and at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church where the Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will follow in Greenville Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Light a candle at ajcunninghamfh.com.
