Obituary of William P. Ackerman

MEDUSA – William P. Ackerman, 71, passed away peacefully on Monday June 19, 2017 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. William was born on May 7, 1946 in Cheverly, MD to the late Frederick L. and Ethel L. Wobster Ackerman. The family traveled from different military bases before settling in Medusa. Bill was a graduate of Greenville Central School, and received a degree in forestry from Paul Smith College. He lived in Massachusetts for ten years, before coming back to build his home on the family property in Medusa. Bill worked as a computer programmer for New York State in Albany, having retired in 2001. He was a member of the NRA and the New Scotland Beagle Club, was on the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Council, and served as the president of the school council at Cairo-Durham High School. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.
 Bill is survived by his significant other, Lois Cassavaugh; his children, Kimberly (Vincent) Holloway-Marano, Becky (Justin) Benincasa, and William F. Ackerman; his grandchildren, Marcus and Laura Holloway and Alessandra Benincasa; his siblings, Leslie Glerum and Paula (John) Dennis; his step-children, Stephanie and Punkie Cassavaugh; his step-grandchildren, Kayla and Kyle Sharpe; and many nieces and nephews.
 Calling hours will be held on Thursday June 22, 2017 from 5 to 7pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, NY 12083. A funeral service will follow at 7pm. He will then be privately cremated. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene, 47 Liberty St., Catskill, NY 12414.
