Obituary of Frances M. Alexander

SURPRISE - Frances M. Duhnoski Alexander, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010 at Pine Haven Nursing Home in Philmont. Born April 30, 1925 in Garden City Park, L.I. and raised there, she was daughter of the late Eugene and Catherine Kuznieska Duhnoski. Frances married Wilbur W. Alexander on Feb. 17, 1946 and they lived in Central Islip, L.I. for many years, and came to Surprise upon retirement. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 120 in Garden City Park. Frances enjoyed television, reading, fishing, bird watching and collecting angels. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor. Frances is survived by her children, Kenneth W. Alexander (Grace Varona) of West Winfield, Ronald R. (Ellie) Alexander of Islip Terrace and Diane K. Alexander of Surprise; son-in-law, Robert Fiedler of Florida; six grandchildren, Sharon (Edward) Huether of Westerlo, Kenneth W. Alexander Jr. of Ronkonkoma, Leah (Darrin) Dobrowolski of Greentown, PA, Ronald R. (Margaret) Alexander Jr. of Nesconsett, Jason Alexander of Islip Terrace and Lori Araneo of Surprise; nine great-grandchildren, Torie, Amy and Brian Huether, Maria Bonsignore, Bronwynn, Anderis and Rayne Dobrowolski, Ronald R. Alexander III and Tyler Alexander; one brother, John Duhnoski of Tinmouth, VT; nieces, nephews and cousins. Frances was predeceased by her husband on April 17, 1996; her daughter, Darljean M. Fiedler in April 2009; two brothers, Alexander and Edward Duhnoski; three sisters, Victoria Salerno, Helen Michaelowski and Statia Janke. Calling hours will be Wednesday Sept. 15 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday Sept. 16 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 SR 81, Greenville, followed by burial in Greenville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or to St. Peter's Hospital will be appreciated. The family would like to thank St. Peter's Cancer Care Center, St. Peter's Hospital, the staff at Pine Haven Nursing Home, Edith Araneo for her company and support, and Tammy Hall for her professional considerations and spiritual support.
