Obituary of Nicholas L. Meola

SURPRISE – Nicholas L. Meola, 100, passed away on Thursday December 29, 2016 at the Stratton VA Hospital. He was born on March 9, 1916 in NYC to the late Antonio and Fioreda Meola. Nick joined the US Army in 1942 and served during WWII, having fought at the Battle of the Bulge. After being Honorably Discharged in 1945, he worked as an engineer at a painting company in NYC. His job took him all over, having traveled to almost every state. After he retired, Nick and his late wife, Aurora, moved to Surprise. Nick was a past treasurer of the Greenville American Legion Post 291, and was a member of the Durham Valley VFW. He received many awards for his volunteer work, receiving a Certificate of Appreciation from the Town of Greenville for his work with the Anti-Dump Committee and a Certificate of Merit from Greene County. In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his siblings, Caroline Mancuso, Angelina Salvatore, and Mario Meola. Nick is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand nephews, and good friends and neighbors. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday January 3, 2017 from 2 to 4pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, NY 12083. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday January 4th at 11am at St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by burial in Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110. Condolences can be posted at ajcunninghamfh.com.
