Obituary of Thomas F. O'Malley

OAK HILL - Thomas F. "Flan" O'Malley, 83, passed away on Thursday November 10, 2016. He was born in Tulla, County Clare, Ireland on October 21, 1933 to the late Patrick and Delia Butler O'Malley, and lived in Tulla until he immigrated to America in 1957. He lived in the Bronx and worked as a dispatcher for the NYC Transit Authority. After retiring in 1992, he began spending time in Oak Hill, moving there full time in 1995. Flan was a member of the AOH Division 2, was very involved in the Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural & Sports Center in East Durham, and was a communicant and usher at Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham. He loved everything Irish; having followed Irish sports and listened to Irish music. He also enjoyed watching and playing golf. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers, Patrick and John J. “J.J.”. Flan is survived by his wife, Bridget “Bridie” Sammon O'Malley; his sister Bridget "Sissy"; and many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters -in-law. Calling hours will be held on Sunday November 13, from 1 to 4 pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, NY 12083. Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday November 14 at 11am at Our Lady of Knock Shrine, 2052 State Route 145, East Durham, NY 12423. Flan will then be flown to Ireland to be buried. In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Lady of Knock Shrine or the Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural & Sports Center will be appreciated. Condolences can be posted at ajcunninghamfh.com.
