Obituary of Kathryne A. Reed

Kathryne A. Reed February 14, 1928 – June 18, 2016 POTTER HOLLOW -- Kathryne Ann Reed, 88, was a spitfire of a woman. She was generous beyond her means, filled with memories and knowledge that she was ready and willing to share, and always had a good joke to keep you on your toes. Kathryne "Kay" and her husband, D. Raymond Reed, who predeceased her, were famous for their unforgettable clambakes, their annual New Year's Day oyster stew open house, and horseback trail rides. They were brought together by their passion for horses and were members of the Cloverleaf Corral Horse Club for many years. Kay was also an avid bird watcher, and talented craftswoman. Kathryne, the youngest of eight children, was born in Dow City, Iowa, on February 14, 1928, to Ernst and Clara Aeberhardt Kummer. For 37 years she worked as a lab technician for the State of New York and later as a part time tar-bender (Kay's words) at many local establishments. She is survived by her sister, Alice Schubert, several nieces and nephews, her dog, Nifty, her stepdaughters Linda (John) Mormile, Diane (Carlos Jr.) Sala, and Virginia (predeceased son-in-law David) Cook, seven step-grandchildren, many great grandchildren, friends and extended family members. Calling hours are Wednesday, June 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. with the funeral services beginning at 5 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville, followed by internment at the Potter Hollow Cemetery. Donations in Kathryne's memory may be made to the Tri-Village Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 575, Preston Hollow, NY 12469-0575, or the Rensselaerville Volunteer Ambulance, PO Box 182, Rensselaerville, NY 12147-0182.
