Obituary of Laurence W.G. Whiteford

Laurence William Gibson Whiteford , 76, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday February 3, 2016. He was known as "Larry, U.L. or Unkies", by his family and friends. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Laurence and his family immigrated to New York City in 1951. Laurence was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. 6th Marines, 2nd Division, based in the Caribbean and the Middle East. Laurence and his wife Mary, relocated to Oak Hill in 1985 to be closer to family. He retired from Time Warner in NYC, having worked on Time, Life, People, Money, Sports Illustrated and Fortune magazines. Laurence enjoyed football, having summer bbq's, working on his land, cruises, spending time with his family and his animals, and playing cards with his buddies. He was meticulous in all he did and never stopped until the job was done right. Laurence was always the "life of the party", with his unique stories and keen sense of humor. He was loyal and true to his word, always going out of his way for anyone who needed him. Laurence is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary Caviglia Whiteford, his sister Sheila, nieces Jennifer Jones, Amanda Jones, Jessica Jones, Corrina Whiteford, nephews Richard Jones and Cory Whiteford, and Cory's wife, Ashley, and many grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be on Friday February 5th from 3 to 5pm and service will be held at 7pm at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home at 4898 State Route 81, Greeneville, New York 12083. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene at 47 Liberty Street, Catskill, NY 12414.
