Obituary of Stephen M. Brophy

GREENVILLE – Stephen M. Brophy, 74, passed away on Thursday October 22, 2015. Stephen Brophy was born in 1940 in New York City to the late Martin and Lillian Brophy. He was a self-taught artist and produced a large body of paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures over the past fifty years. Since moving to Greenville in 1972, Brophy had three one-man shows at the Columbia-Greene Community College (during the 1980s and early 1990), two one-man shows at the Institute of Man and Science in Rensselaerville (1980s), and a group show at the former Terrance Gallery in Palenville (1981). A number of Brophy's paintings are in the collection of the Greene County Council of the Arts and are on view at the Greene County Savings Bank in Greenville. His last show was October 10, 2015 and his most recent works can still be seen at the Carrie Haddad Art Gallery, http://carriehaddadgallery.com/index.cfm?method=Artist.ArtistDetail&ArtistID=64285E12-0607-9153-9F375A755234C3F5. As well as dedicated and committed artist, Brophy was a Master Carpenter and antiquities restorer. Many of the houses and buildings he has built and refurbished can be seen in Greene County, Hudson Valley and throughout the Catskills. Stephen will be remembered by his six sons and their families.; Michael & Tara, Martin & Eileen, John, Thomas & Kelly, Jacob and Eli. His eleven grandchildren; Patrick, Shannon, Aidan, Liam, Ava, Griffin, Eamon, Sullivan, Miles, Ella and Scarlett. In addition his cousin, Michael Storms, his niece Anna Ward, his ex wife & friend Jessica Schwartz and his ex wife Barbara Ciriani. Requiescat in pace Stephen, you will be missed but never forgotten.
