OAK HILL – John David Dennis, 84, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Stratton VA Medical Center. He was born in Kaywood, Ohio on May 19, 1933, son of the late George Dennis and Josephine Dixon Dennis. Mr. Dennis was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Worcester. He has lived in Oak Hill since 1984. Mr. Dennis was a tool & die maker and a machinist, working at the former Becker Electronics in East Durham, and retiring in 2000 from Phillips Electronics in Saugerties. He was a country & western singer with the band "Country Express", and enjoyed playing his guitar at private parties and events – music was his life. He was a member of NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Paula Ackerman Dennis, and was the father of Sharon Sheehan, John David Dennis, Cindy Almeida, Maureen DeLaurier, Brian Dennis, David Dennis, Charylie Dennis, and the late Donna Dennis Scudieri and Allan Dennis. He raised his grandchildren, Joeleen and Brianna, and was the grandfather of Amber, Danielle, along with many more grand and great-grandchildren. He is the brother of Franklin "Dwain" Dennis, Carol Simon, and the late Lucille Braden, Ray Dennis, Garnet Hupp, and Donald Dennis, and is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorial calling hours will be Thursday, September 21st, from 5 to 7 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Memorial Mass will be offered Friday, September 22nd, at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675 will be appreciated.
